Welcome to the good ole’ U.S. of A. Land of contradictions. The U.S. is expansive and crowded;
small town and metropolis; sophisticated and homey; great value and the home of
extravagance; keen for tourists and home of the TSAnazis. It’s hard to work the USA out sometimes. Whatever
your travel plans the complexity and contradictions that flag a holiday to the USA mean it’s essential to plan
and it’s critical to work with good information.
Whether it’s how to get great seats at a Vegas show, or the best seafood meal in San Fran, or how to beat the
crowds at the Empire State Building, don’t go to America without being well-armed with strategies to make sense
from a land that often seems to be saying two opposite things at the same time!
First thing to remember as you begin to plan your trip to
the States is that it’s vast! We know how long it takes to fly from Sydney to Perth, so do yourself a favour:
look at a world map then measure the breadth of our continent and then lay the same measurement over the U.S.
It’s big baby! I recommend that you take your wishlist (remember, we ALWAYS say to start with a wishlist) and
then try and separate your travel into particular regions. That way you’re not doubling back on your own
travel tracks.
Most Australians that visit the States tend to only frequent a select few spots. L.A., San Francisco,
Disneyland, Vegas and New York. If you can only do this because it’s your first visit and you’re short on time,
don’t fret, you will enjoy. If you’re thinking of only doing these spots because you don’t have any other
suggestions, be careful, you may be cheating yourself! There are tonnes to do in the States that most of us rarely
get to, and the further out you go, the higher the value of your holiday experience. How about: Monument Valley,
Grand Canyon, Miami, Orlando, Washington, Mount Rushmore, Yellowstone National Park, Seattle, Big Sky National
Park, Memphis, New England forests in fall, Chicago, New Orleans, Cape Canaveral, Anchorage, and I could still name
another fifty!
There’s a lot going on in the States and there’s a definite art for getting the most out of your trip so that
you can hit the ground running.
Why don’t you head through our United States section and start getting yourself ready to make the U.S. a memory
