Prince Edward Island Canada
The birthplace of Canada...and the home of the most famous of all Canadians, Anne Shirley.
Sorry, Wayne Gretsky and Brian Adams. Our sincere apologies, Michael Buble, Celine Dion and Lorne Greene. Anne
of Green Gables has you all beat. Even I know about Anne Shirley and I’m a guy!
Published in 1908, Anne of Green Gables centres on the gorgeous Prince Edward Island – Canada’s smallest and
greenest province, which for generations has proven a timeless favourite. For those swept up in childhood memories
of Anne Shirley, you can take the suggested Anne Itinerary! (see below)
Located in the Gulf of St Lawrence, this small yet comely island – in fact, the smallest province in the nation
- might well have escaped world attention (and adoration) were it not for Lucy Maud Montgomery’s famous book. What
else is there to see for those not pursuing our favourite redhead? Don’t fret there’s tonnes to see on this sublime
outpost. The extraordinary beauty of PEI is faceted in red sandstone cliffs, inviting beaches, pastoral hills, bays
and ocean coves.
First a home to the Mi’kmaq people, now a home to many, many golfers. Prince Edward Island hosts more than 30
golf courses with the Links at Crowbush Cove, Dundarare and Brudenell River rated as some of the top courses in
North America.
It’s hard to narrow down the highlights of Prince Edward Island to just a couple of items and it’s hard
to overstate the serene beauty of this wondrous place. Most every part of
this province is worth taking in and is an unfolding delight. Explore Charlottetown as your first port of
call. During the Charlottetown Festival you’ll be able to enjoy ‘Anne of Green Gables – The Musical’. Scoff
not, it is the longest running production in Canadian history. Whilst there, try the local favourite dish,
Church Lobster Supper – a genuine island tradition.
